Wow. my car had factory ignition system still in the car

The story is i bought this car about a month. A 91 formula 350 TPI. just finished pulling the factory ignition system out. It had factory coil, wires, cap, spark plugs. I was shocked it still had it in there. There was nothing wrong with the car I just wanted fresh parts. So ever since i swaped the old ignition parts out the car starts up quicker. the idle seems alittle better and it drives nicer. Just thought i share this with you.

Re: Wow. my car had factory ignition system still in the car

I have an 85 Fbird. I was getting ready to go on a road trip a couple months back and was filling up my car at 9pm. I popped the hood and checked my fluids. Then started the car after putting in some oil and walked inside to pay with the hood still up. While walking back to my car I notice that two plug wires in the passenger side were arcing off my exhaust manifold. They were original wires! I tucked them away from the manifold and they stopped arcing. When I got back from my road trip I redid the cap, plugs and wires. Smoothed out a bit.

well depending on miles I can see that. When these cars came out plugs were do around 30k, wires normally every other plug change (or third) so very feasible. Most car's nowadays are 100k tuneup. not a fan. I say 80k tops with platinum/iridium plugs. Also I dont run any special plugs in my cars. I run OEM.

I agree 100 percent. I went oem with my new ignition system. I even picked up an ac delco fuel filter at the parts store. plan on doing the install maybe tomorrow if its not raining that is. Man it really sucks not having a garage. lol
