i just finished a t-5 swap in a 92 v6 camaro and i am getting a code 24 for vss. my question is the transmission came out of a 87 and is mechanical is there a way to run vss from that ( i have a converter from speedhut to run aftermarket gauges) and also is vss required in any way for normal operation of the car. if not how can i get it so the light is off.

An electronic T-5 VSS (90-92) is a direct fit for the 87. The 700R4 won't fit as it's too large, IIRC. I'd think you could simply splice the new T-5 VSS into the old wiring and plug'er in. You'll need the correct driven gear to make the speedo read correctly.

EDIT: If you're simply swapping T-5's, it's a non-issue. Plug the VSS from the 92 into the 87. In this case the driven gear will be fine. The drive gear in the 87, however, may be different than the 92, so make sure that they're the same or the speedo won't read correctly.
