Question about head bolt torque

I got Trick Flow's head bolt kit. The instructions that came with the bolts say to torque the bolts to 80 ft/lbs if you are using 30W oil to lube them. Does that seem excessive to anyone else? The heads are AFR 180's and I don't want to ruin them.

Re: Question about head bolt torque

If that's what it calls for, no. I believe for cast iron heads, Haynes calls for 60 ft-lbs. Thats what I've done in the past, but I wouldn't wonder from spec.

Just make sure you torque them in sequence, in about 20 ft-lbs. Increments.

Re: Question about head bolt torque

Yeah I torqued them first to 40 (per the sheet from trick flow) then to 60 and then to 80.
