Code 32+ loss of OD + overheating =?

86 IROC 305 TPI 700r4

Ok, I noticed that my car was taking longer to shift and seemed sluggish. Then on the way home it wouldn't shift into OD. A few miles from home it set of code 32 (EGR) and when I got home the car had over heated a bit and fluid came of from arounf the rad cap. It's cooled down quickly so I guess it wasn't that hot and not for too long.

So is the over heating and EGR and no OD related?

I was thinking the no OD might be that the car went into some sort of limp mode, but it didn't trip the engine light till like 10 minutes later.

Cleared the code and added coolant. Started up the car with the radiator cap off and it didn't shoot fluid out like there was too much pressure. Put on a new rad cap since the old one was on there when I got the car last year. Turned on the car and warmed it up, and revved it a few times to get it hotter. Used an infrared temp gun and no part of the engine went over 175* at any time. Here's something I noticed though. The over flow is fuller than normal and even with the new cap, some antifreeze is dribbling out from under it, but nothing boiled over.

Is your OD back? code 32 is egr related. Should not effect performance. I have driven around for miles with it til i got my new chip burned. How hot did it get?

Re: Code 32+ loss of OD + overheating =?

I am not sure how hot it got since my gauge doesn't work. I'm not even sure it got that hot since my reasoning for believing it was hot was the AF spilling out of the cap, but it seems to do that anyway. Like I wrote above though, when I went to test it with a temp gun, it never went over 175 ( I have a 180 stat)

Thanks for the reply, I can use all the help I can

Are you lacking overdrive or just the lockup on the torque converter?

I wasn't able to drive it today to test for OD. I mean actually OD, as in it only would shift up to 3rd gear.
