Help me in the right direction :) 350 sb questions

so I recently bought a new project car, its a 1982 camaro with a 350 small block, 4 barrel carb, 350 turbo tranny, and i need ideas to send me into the right direction

right now its slow and i want to change that lol i honestly dont know what car the engine came from and not sure what all they did to it (if anything)...i got it for $1000 bucks from a girl who sold it for money to move (her ex bf did all the work)

what would a good heads/cam/intake/carb set up be?

i do have a nitrous kit i want to put on it eventually, 75 or 100 shot

i might be able to get a set of 350 vortec heads for a good deal, pair that up with an edelbrock rpm air gap vortec manifold? maybe an edelbrock thunder series 650 carb? not sure about a cam

im just throwing ideas out there and hoping to get some feedback! thanks

it would be a good idea to see what all is on/in the engine first before trying to buy new parts. you never know, it might have a better part in/on it than what you buy. vortech heads and an rpm air gap with matched cam really wakes up an otherwise stock 350. I persoanlly stear clear of eldelbrock carbs though.

i agree i need to really check out the motor first, when i get it back from the shop ill take lots of pics maybe that will help identify some things, right now i only have 1 pic of it

ive heard people prefer holley carbs over edelbrock, ive just always liked edelbrock but im not brand particular, i want what will work best, what kind of carb do you like?

The Holley/Edelbrock arguement is about the same as the Ford/Chevy arguement - and just as old. In the end one product is just about as good as the other, just different. Most folks say a Holley is better cause it's more tunable (which it's really not), but alot of folks say a Holley needs constant tuning done (which I doubt). I run an Edelbrock, slapped it on 4 years ago, never touched it again, and it runs great. But most "track" guys run Holley's - probably because changing jets/rods is much quicker on a Holley for fine tuning better 1/4 mile times.

FIRST thing I would do is get the block casting number and verify it's really a 350, and which 350 - externally you cannot tell the difference between a 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, or 383 without casting numbers.

Second, I'd get head casting numbers.

Hard to tell you what's good to get if you're not 100% confident of what you already have.
