86 Iroc test cars

Hello all,
What I am wondering, in 86 they made 50 test Irocs with the 350 in them. I bought an 86 Z28 about 6 years ago that has a 350 in it. I read that they were going to produce these cars in late 86 but decided to wait until 87 to bring out the 350 for production cars. Does anybody know if they might have sold any of these 50 test cars? I thought someone just swapped in a 350 but now I am not sure. Thanks for any input

Re: 86 Irok test cars

I believe it was originally fuel injected but that was all removed along with the computer and changed to carburetor. The guy I got it from bought it from one of his employees who was in some legal trouble and had to skip town. All he could tell me that it was fuel injected and he thought it was rebuilt. It is the 700r4 and ttop and had ac. That is about all I can tell you other than it had a different front end than the regular 86 Z28.

No it definately is at least a Z28. It has all the upgraded suspension and the Z interior and badging. But what I meant by the front is like the Irok, it has the grill insert with the fog lights that says camaro on it. I think the Z had a louvered one or something

Re: 86 Irok test cars

All of that is easily changed. Run the VIN through compnine & you'll know what it really/originally was.

Re: 86 Irok test cars

Lol, sorry its 2am and I been out workin in the yard since 6 this mornin. My eyes can't keep up with my fingers. Tomorrow I will check out the VIN to decode it. I am wondering though, the At transmission is connected to the computer, right? It has a 2500 stall converter in it but sometimes won't shift until it is almost redline at normal driving. Not sure if that is the problem or the vacuum line.

Re: 86 Irok test cars

The trans in the 86 cars was not computer controlled.

Re: 86 Irok test cars

Cool so it must be the vacuum line. I think it is in the wrong port on the carb

it is not a computer controlled tranny

how often will it go to redline before shifting?

You can reset the tv cable and verify that it is correct and also check the fluid level.

If both are good, and the problem still exists even under moderate accelleration then it sounds more like slipping.

Re: 86 Irok test cars

No it definately doesn't slip, the tranny snaps you when it shifts. The cable is ok, but on the carb I only have a vacuum line going to the distributor and the big line goin to the PVC.

Re: 86 Irok test cars

No vacuum lines on a 700R4. If it's shifting late and the TV cable is fine, check for a broken governor gear or a stuck TV in the transmission.
