hey guys i recently got a 87 iroc ive always wanted one and im in love with it but stuff is already starting to wear out on it lol my tranny(700r4) is not wanting to shift from 1st to 2nd when its suppose to it just revs about 500-800rpm to high then shifts.my buddy tells me my tranny is screwed and im stuck with the option of rebuilding it is this true or will a shift kit solve this problem?also sometimes when shifting from park to reverse it will stall it(and sometimes into drive but very rarely) doesnt do it all the time just sometimes any idea what could be causing that?

This one is cheap and simple.
Put the car on jackstands, get a drain pan, then drop the transmission pan.
Then pull the old filter, and get a 10 mm socket on an extension, plus a ratchet. You may also want safety glasses and paper towels.
Loosen all 3 bolts, then drop the accumulator. Watch out for a check ball. Try to lower the accumulator very level-ly in case there is a check ball. If so, it needs to end up how you found it.
Anyway, if the accumulator spring is broken, it will be very obvious. You can spend $5 for a replacement, or you can get a B&M shift kit, and use their spacers, for tire-chirping 1-2 upshifts. Well, they won't chirp below about 1/2 throttle.
Anyway, then bolt the accumulator back in place, install a new filter, and bolt the pan back on using the new gasket that came with the filter. Then pour in fresh fluid, and go for a test drive.
