Fuel Pump queston (easy answer hopefully)
Well i'm having fuel pump issues.. or at least i hope its just the fuel pump.
My 92 RS camaro is running a 305 bored 30 over mild rv cam a lot of head work and a oversized carb.
Monday I put a new oil sending unit in my car as it was leaking oil out the side where the plastic and metal meet. Sens then the car has been "cutting out" fuel to the motor (inline fuel filter can watch as the fuel slowly runs out)
If the car isnt pushing 40 PSI of oil pressure it cuts the fuel, my motor runs with low oil pressure at an idle and when driving in overdrive so thus the car shuts down. (35ish psi)
So here is my questons.
Could it be a bad oil sending unit?
Where are the power wires to the fuel pump run at? If i have to i'll be running a toggle switch set up on the fuel pump. I know its a 1/2 *** way but im low on cash and have all the toggle stuff already so its free instead of paying a shop to fix the issue)
IF its the fuel pump causing this issue, would it be possable to just add a aftermarket external electric fuel pump?
The way my car is set up right now, there is NO retern line, it has been caped off and has ran fine untill i replaced the oil sending unit.

Given:
- '92 RS
- 305
- carb
Can we assume you took out the ECM?
If so, I'd guess you're only getting the pump to run when the oil pressure switch engages. In the original system, the oil pressure switch was a back-up system, with the ECM providing the primary fuel pump signal. The fuel pump relay is engaged for a few seconds when the ignition is first turned on, then powered continuously when the engine is running.
You can rig up the relay to power the pump whenever the ignition is on (assuming you still have the relay in the system), or hook it up to a driver-operated switch. If you do the latter, I suggest you only have power to the relay when the ignition is on.

Re: Fuel Pump queston (easy answer hopefully)
The ECM is still installed and working, i bought the car how it is set up now. The last owner drove it for a few years this way, i got the car and ended up spinning a rod bearing, so i replaced the orginal 305 with a 1990 305 camaro motor that was freshly built with the fallowing mods listed above. I installed the orginal oil sending unit and the car has ran fine for 6000 miles with the new motor, i replaced the oil sending unit dew to the leak and now it is shutting down when it hits 35 lbs of oil pressure.
I belive that the oil sending unit is junk dew to the car ran fine the hole 35 miles to the shop the day i put it in, and only ran for 8 miles after installing it and the car shut down, sat for 2 minits fired it up and as long as i was in 3rd gear terning some rpms and keeping the oil psi up around 40 psi it ran fine, drove the car to work today in 3rd gear and it ran the hole way, shifted to 4th and the oil psi dropped to 30 and it lasted like that for 1/4 mile or so then it was dead in the water again till i poped it into nutral and reved it up fighting the sputtering till it was running good again... then droped it back into 3rd and drove the other 30 miles i had to drive.
Tomarrow i'll replace the oil sending unit... AGAIN... and see what happens this time around.
So how would i wire up a toggle switch to run the fuel pump dew to im tired of all the ECM issues, like my orginal key is broke and the guy changed the ignishon out and now the broke key with the chip is pluged into the chip reader part of the ignishon tied up under the dash, so i'd like to get rid of that issue as well. I'm not restoring the car, its a daily drive with 236,386 miles on it, so its going to become a playtoy when i get another truck, so modding anything isnt a big deal to me.
