CAT GD-350-N noisy timing gear sets
CAT GD-350-N noisy timing gear sets
Hi wise ones...
There is a set of these on fleabay and I can't work out of they will fit my '91 RS 305 TBI. Says will fit all 2 piece main seals, later ones with single main seals will not fit unless using a retro cam?
Can someone offer any input?
Best wishes,
Craig.

It is the cheeeeepest of the cheeeeeep, made in China junk, designed to look like performance parts and take money from the gullible.
That said, a 305 TBI isn't much of a test bed; except that I doubt something cheeeeeeeep like that will run as many miles as that L03 will. As low-bid as that thing is, it'll take the car off the road. You'd be well advised to carry a REAL timing set in your glove box at all times, and tools to change it and a coolant drain bucket.
The nose of a factory roller cam is different from an older one; that's why it won't fit.
Resist the temptation to become a poseur and compete with the import guys for who gets laughed at behind their back the most by people who know what they're doing, and spanked at traffic lights by those of us that have fast cars but happen to be driving the company Kia minivan or whatever ATM, that's faster than your car. That's humiliating when you have all this "noise" BS going on, drawing attention to yourself, when you're LOSING. Don't put a gear drive on that car. That's PURE poseur, wannabe, little pre-school boy putting baseball cards in the spokes of his tricycle with clothespins type stuff.
Oh, and I don't think much of the whole idea, by the way.

Thanks for that info.... I don't have the money, skill, room or desire to build a hypo engine. I just wanted setting to make the car different and I thought a bit of noise might just do that. But I hear you entirely. Let's face it, a stock RS is a card in the spokes type of thing anyway... Lol.

Right: enjoy it for what it is; and maybe, fix its weaknesses, and turn it into a wolf in .... wolf's .... clothing. But be honest about it.
