what cam to buy
what cam to buy
hello i just got a l48 from a 74 vette to put in my 85 camaro i have it all apart now replaceing all the leaky gaskets so i thought it would be a perfect time to replace the cam but dont know what one to get. I m not looking to gain crazy horse power but would like a better sound. the engine has 128 000 k and is stock. any info would be great
Re: what cam to buy
Id go with the comp cams 268h or if you want a little more the xe268h
there nice sounding cams not to mild and not to wild gives you plenty of vacuum at idle to run power breaks and other accessories

Will you be running a performance intake like an air gap, headers etc.?
I would run the old comp cams 280H in there its A very nice cam does not cause vacuum problems and other associated problems...... Not dismissing the 268H at all its a great grind aswell.

With those 1.94 / 1.50" valves, you need a dual-pattern cam. And even if you get the heads milled 0.030", you still have under 9:1 compression, assuming original-style dished pistons.
Considering these, I'd say the XE268H would be the best compromise.
