Intake manifold Clearance??

What size intake will fit under a 91 stock camaro hood? Will a high-rise manifold fit?

No.

I have used a Holley Street Dominator and Weiand Stealth- both fit under stock hood. Anything taller than a Performer won't fit IIRC- I seem to recall guys saying they had issues w/ the RPM.

Do you lose hp or tq using other intake manifolds other then a high-rise? I've heard many things about this, some say yes some say no.

Re: Intake manifold Clearance??

What exactly is your build specs?

Unless you plan on turning high rpms or having huge cubes, I'd get the whole high rise idea out of your head. You won't be happy- especially with a smaller or street driven V8- you won't be winning any stoplight races.

A high rise intake may look cool and sound cool rolling off the tongue, but it will only outperform any other dual plane at high rpms, and will typically make less hp/tq in the bottom and mid on the same engine with a 'smaller' dual plane.

Re: Intake manifold Clearance??

It's a 383 Stroker, Here's just a quick breakdown of engine specs. The builder was going to put in a high-rise rpm air gap intake. I concerned the manifold won't clear the stock hood.

The block is a 1986+ 4-bolt main with 1-piece seal. ProComp Aluminum heads which feature 190cc intake ports - swirl technology 64cc chambers with 2.02"x1.60" stainless valves.
The crankshaft is by "EAGLE" products, with 5.7" long forged I-beam rods and SpeedPro flatop pistons with moly rings, giving pump gas friendly (10to1) compression ratio. A custom ground hydraulicrollercamshaft and roller lifters, with spec's (236/244`@.050" with .565/.585" lift on 112`LSA) are matched to Aluminum 1.6 ratio Roller rockers and 130# seat pressure valve springs, providing TREMENDOUS acceleration, with a power range of 2000-6200 rpm's.

Re: Intake manifold Clearance??

Do a search on the Performer RPM air gap in regards to clearances- that would be as big as you'd want to go anyway, and would match the RPM range of the cam.

I recall leaning towards that intake, but shying away because I couldn't make it work with the L69 dual snorkel and stock hood.
