Replacement heads, which way to go?

So my ex girlfriend either blew a head gasket or cracked a head on my 305. The engine smokes like a freight train for about five minutes when I start my car, and I can't keep the engine from getting really hot. My question is, should I buy 305 heads to replace the ones I have, have mine rebuilt, or get something else? Would 350 heads bolt on? I've got a completely stock engine. What would be my best way to go?

Re: Replacement heads, which way to go?

i would just buy a complete 350 personally.
but if you want to rebuild the 305 then get 305 heads, the 350 heads will
bog the motor down..

Re: Replacement heads, which way to go?

i just rebuild my 305 heads myself and it was crazy
the car did the puff smoke thing since it was 2 years old.
i took it apart... all of the exhaust valve stem seals were gone, and the intake ones were there but hard and brittle and falling apart.
so if your 305 smokes...rebuild it.
the exhaust valves were caked in oil carbon depoists and the car runs soooooo much better now that all the valves are clean and new seals...and all new gaskets of course.
i got a head gasket kit from a place on ebay called reliant gasket.....40$ us for the whole top end gaket kit...CHEAP!
