Coolent leak

I have a coolent leak on top of the valve cover, do I nead a new gasket?

You don't need a new valve cover gasket because of coolant on the valve covers - there's no coolant under the valve covers!

You need either a new coolant hose, thermostat gasket, or intake gasket. Find the leak first. If needing a new intake gasket, might need new valve cover gaskets if you have to remove the valve covers to get easier access to the intakes removal/reinstall.
