motor/tune question

I have an 86 firebird that has a 70's 350ci block (carbrated) that has a wierd idel. the motor will start without touching the gas even when sitting for a week or so. i whent out today and started it and it is ideling wierd but when i give it gas it seems to run smoth. i have true duals (no y or x pipe) and the passanger side seems to have a miss. the motor is fresh built about 5000 miles ago and was running fine when i last drove it. could this be fouled plugs and wires or is it somthing to do with the motor its self. where should i start? a tune up probably wouldent hurt things so i was going to do one anyway i was just curius as to what other people think it might be.

Re: motor/tune question

Could be timing issue - what's timing set at?

Could be idle issue on carb - try adjusting the idle settings some.

Could be a choke issue - does carb have an electric choke?

Could need new plugs, rotor, cap or wires.

We kinda need to know what carb, etc. you have.

Most carb manufacturer's have great tuning guides online for their products.

Re: motor/tune question

Well the carb is a 1505 ? Elda. I am going to try the plugs wires cap rotor and all that fun stuff before I mess with the timing. I had my grampa playing with the carb and he said he don't think its the carb and suggested timing and all the regular maintenance. The car isn't driven like I would like it to be and sits more than it deserves so I dont think about simple things like plugs and wires. The carb don't have an electric choke its just held open by a wire.

Re: motor/tune question

carbs with no choke tend to not idle very well until the engine warms up. look into either running a linkage inside the car for the manual choke, or putting on an electric choke. both are relatively easy to do.

Will do! I need to get one anyway I live in ks and it can snow one day and be t-shirt weather the next so an electric choke would be nice
