What engine do i have?
Ok this is the deal. I am trying to build a rat rod. I like chevy power plants so of course I went with a chevy small block due to the parts, and what not. So this junk yard was having a 50% off sale. When to the yard with my tools. Found me a nice 3rd gen camaro, and went to picking. Bad thing. I don't know what motor I have at all. ID numbers have been all scrapped off so I can't tell by there. The side of the car had 87 on it, but from more and more of what i'm reading I don't think it was a 87. From what I can tell you about the car. It had a clock in the center console. It was auto, and carbed with an electric fan. Other than that now really sure. I mean I don't know how much of a difference if at all it will make. Thought I could check here and see if I could get some feedback and some help. Thanks for your time.

Probably not a L03; that's the TBI 305.
More likely the LG4. Although from the sound of it, that wasn't a pristine unmolested car; could have been just about anything.
Post the casting # off the block and heads.
If it's actually a 305, consider it money down the drain; no sense spending a couple $$$$thousand rebuilding a $50 305 and in the end having a .... 305, when you can spend THE EXACT SAME couple $$$$$thousand on a $50 350 and instead, have a ..... 350 ..... for THE EXACT SAME MONEY. That'd be just a mindless bonehead move: about like going to the grocery store and seeing 3.50 pounds of meat for a price, and then 3.05 pounds of THE EXACT SAME MEAT sitting right next to it for THE EXACT SAME PRICE, and picking up the 3.05 pound package ANYWAY.
If you messed up and accidentaly got a 305, throw it in the trash NOW. Cut your losses BEFORE you have alot of $$$$$ sunk into an unrecoverable dead-end WHILE THEY'RE STILL SMALL, and move on. Consider it as merely a small payment to the dumba$$ tax, which all of us (me more than most) have already contributed so much to over the years. Learn from our mistakes and DON'T SPEND MONEY ON A 305.
