Mystery pipe/hose
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could tell me what this small rubber pipe is supposed to be connected to? Pic 1 shows the pipe/hose that's not connected to anything and pic 2 shows where it goes to.
Where/what should it be plugged in to? The car is an 84 Z28 with a carbed LG4.

The smog pump has been removed by the previous owner as far as I can tell (but the egr valve is still there), would it possibly be part of that system?
Thanks

Re: Mystery pipe/hose
Thanks for the reply,
Interesting that you should say that, as I have the classic "demist only" problem with my AC. Where should this be plugged in?

Re: Mystery pipe/hose
What year is that Camaro? I know in 85 (typical 3rd gen carb Camaro application) there was a "mailbox" shaped vacuum reservoir just above the power brake booster. That "hard line" that goes to under the dash (HVAC controls) plugs into one of the ports on that reservoir, the other port on the reservoir uses a larger diameter soft line to connect to the fitting on the top of the intake manifld just behind the carb.
All GM HVAC systems have a vacuum reservoir. Some used a round ball mounted near the heater box, some had it up in the front/driver's side fender (later EFI 3rd gens, for example), but most carb 3rd gen Camaros have that weird mailbox shaped one above the power brake booster.

Re: Mystery pipe/hose
OK, so it's been a while.
I still haven't sorted this out and I still only have the defrost on my heating/AC.
My car doesn't have the vacuum ball under the driver's side behind the headlight, and I don't have the mailbox thingy either. Here is what the firewall where that thing should be looks like.

If this is indeed why my heater is stuck on defrost, what steps do I need to take to get the vacuum line connected to the appropriate piece of equipment so that my heater works properly?
Thanks all
