Automatic transmission shifts too early?
I have a 1984 Camaro Sport Coupe V8 with a stock automatic transmission. I feel that while in overdrive, the car shifts into 4th too early. It shifts around 30-35 mph, the engine sounds really low, and it leaves me with very little torque until I reach 45-50 mph.
Is this normal?
When should I be using overdrive anyway? I usually use normal drive until I need to go over 45 mph then shift to OD, then back if I need to accelerate back up from under 45 mph... Is it ok to be shifting back and forth or would it be better just to live with the early shifting?
Thanks.
EDIT: I don't have a tach.

I would tighten up the tv a notch or 2 and get it shifting into OD at about 45.

Check this lnk out make sure your TV cable is set properly ( lot of good iinfo)

Road test the vehicle. Under moderate acceleration your shift points should be close to the following:
1-2…………………15-20 MPH
2-3…………………25-30 MPH
3-4…………………40-45 MPH n.
If the cable is adjusted too loosely your transmission will exhibit soft, stacked shifts (not spread out). DO NOT CONTINUE DRIVING VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENS! Immediately readjust cable.

Could a poorly set TV cable also cause the transmission not to downshift when appropriate?
