'85 305 to '72 350 oil pan question

Hey fellas,

Tried a search, couldn't really find the answer.

I am swapping in a '72 350 block with a driver's side dipstick. The oil pan on the 350 is bigger than my 305's and will likely cause issues with the y-pipe.

I have a 1985 Z28, LG4 305 with dipstick on the passenger side.

Can I swap the oil pan from the 305 to the 350 with no issues?

Thanks for any help!

Colin

No.

However a pan for a 70s Camaro, Chevelle, or Monte Carlo will drop right in.

Some time in the '80s, GM started giving the trucks the same pan as the cars, except the always-different 'vette, of course. But back in '72, I believe the truck pans were different. Or you may have a 'vette pan. And I've heard rumors of 'vette pans fitting older trucks.

Darn, thanks Sofa. Will those pans clear the hooker 2055's y-pipe?

The pan on the 350 is chrome so it must be aftermarket. The block is from a 1972 GMC Sprint, which I guess when stock would have been the same as a Chevelle pan? I'll try to get a pic.

I know they'll clear stock, Edlebrock, and SLP Y-pipes.

No idea about the Hooker one. That would be a Hooker question.
