Broke rod? Piston? Valves? Help!!!!!
Ok soooooo built 350 cam, heads headers, and we found an intake gasket leak it was burning coolant so we pulled the spark plugs and found this,

Wtf

seriously how would that happen? The only thing I could think of would be broken rod made the piston slap the plug or broke piston any ideas?

That is what the spark plug guilds call mechanical damage..
Time to pull the head and take a better look.. Pulled many plugs out like that and never had good news..
Good luck!

Ahhhh I don't wanna pull the head, the motor was in my 72suburban and I pulled it to put in my brothers trans am but he has had nothing but issues collapsed lifters the valves were slapping hard it's just one more thing, if it's a rod or piston I'm seriously just gonna pull the motor and completely rebuild it

Could also be something foreign in the cylinder that did it. Either way it still warrents taking off the head to see whats going on. If it puked a rod, you may not have much to work with rebuild wise.

If it had serious valvetrain issues, it could also be a broken valve. That would cause the coolant consumption issue as well as the detached valve head would likey crack the head and cause it to leak coolant. Either way it would result in serious engine damage.

Definitely foreign matter in that cyl. If not a broken part WITHIN the cyl, then it was some kind of debris that fell down through the carb.
Gonna need to pull the head and make sure nothing else is tore up. No real way around that.

So just incase anyone was still wondering I got the head off and the piston was split in half and turned sideways, how that happen I have no idea, I'm gonna take a picture when I get home tonight but I will have to upload it when I get to work tomorrow. So now we have the motor apart and are figuring out what pistons to buy

Ya that's what was so weird, it would fire up and run but had a slight noose and was leaking, so I think the rod and the pieces of the piston were still all together till we pulled the head
