lt1 wont stay running
i have an 85 iroc-z with an lt1. i just bought it, the guy told me i just needed to adjust the rockers. so i did. started it up and it ran. i drove it but it had NO power what so ever. so i figured i tightnd the rockers to tight. so i went back with a gauge and readjusted them. now itll start up but wont stay running. i do seem to have spark and fuel pressure. so, what now?? also the guy said it was an lt1 as a 350 tpi, but i looked up options for the year 85 and there is only a 305 tpi. but on the back of the motor the numbers seem to come up as a 350 block??

how do you adjust rockers on an LT1 with a feeler gauge?
Does the water pump have a belt on it or no belt? Where is the distributor?
It sounds to me like you have no idea what you bought

Re: lt1 wont stay running
im actually rly not sure how to adjust the valves "rockers" at this point im just guessing
yes it has a belt around the water pump
the distributor is in the back of the motor..
Re: lt1 wont stay running
otherwise, just pull the coil wire and be sure you have a good charge on the battery.
remove both valve covers. You can now either yank all of the plugs or just bump the engine with the starter. Either way, you need to turn the engine but not start it thus no coil wire.
find the valves which are not "engaged"
tighten those rockers until the pushrod just becomes so you cannot twist it with your fingers. Do that to all 16 thus you will need to bump the engine a little.
once done, reconnect the coil wire and start the engine.
one by one, loosen the rocker until it chatters. Then, tighten it until the chatter stops, then tighten it 1/3 to 1/2 turn more.
repeat for all 16 valves.
I have been doing it this way for I won't tell you how many years

reassemble
do you have a timing light and distributor wrench? If not, get one.
check and adjust your ignition timing.
