083 Pro's and con's
Hi there guys. Im about to buy me a pair of 083's. I know that they are cast iron and that there are others that flow better. But I need some advice. Ive heard that with a good port and polish, I can achieve similar characteristics such as those from a vortec head. Any advice would help guys.

Re: 083 Pro's and con's
Pros
- Way better than any othe 64cc 350 head (except Vortec)
- Standard pattern intake
- Cheap
- Have potential with work put into them
Cons
- They're not as good as Vortecs in several key areas
- They're still just stock cylinder heads.
You start with those and you're starting dead even to every other IROC L98 ever made. To get an edge over a factory L98, and therefore a factory stock car, you will need to push the limit in some other area, most likely camshaft and intake. But with a good cam and a good intake (Not TPI) you can do pretty well. I dont know enough about the porting and potential of them to know whether they can match up to Vortecs... I would assume that as far as brute flow is concerned tehy could probably get there with enough work. But there's more to Vortecs than just flow numbers.
They're way better than the junk smogger heads that come on most of these spraycan rebuilds people like to get on ebay and throw in these cars.

InfernalVortex, Thanks for the advice man. Im really looking forward to these heads man. I wanna get rid of the swirl ports that I currently have installed. I currently have a LT1 cam installed. I have a Edlebrock Hi-Flow manifold base but I still need to get the Edelbrock runners.
