How to?

How the hell do you take the shift **** out on an automatic transmission?!?! The car is a formula firebird!!

Just the **** itself?? I believe theres a little screw you unscrew and then it pops off.

If it's the square ****, there's a "staple" like thing in the front - turn key on, drop tranny into 1, pry staple out with screwdriver.

I've always used needle nosed pliers to get the u-bolt out. Prying could damage the "leather" around the opening.
