Running problems 1985 T/A
Hi i Have a 1985 Trans Am. I recently cracked the heads and replaced them with later model vortec heads and a power plus cyclone intake manifold ever since we put it back together the car bogs under full throttle right above 4000 rpm. I've had a few suggestions to put a larger air filter on it and a larger carb but with money so tight along with my hood clearance i need to seek more thoughts on this problem before i go out and write the check for some expensive parts. thanks for any help on this situation.
Here are some specs on the car.
305 v8
350 vortec heads (fully rebuilt)
Power Plus Cyclone Intake Manifold
stock exhaust
new fuel pump, fuel filter,
Carb is a 600 Rochester
Air cleaner is a 9"x2" with solid metal caps
plugs, wires, cap, and rotor are all new

I've never eaven heard of that intake...lol
Anyway, on to the problems...
Sounds like you've got a vacuum leak. is the car still CC Quadrajet or older vacuum quadrajet? Pull all the hoses off the carb and plug up the carb and all the hoses. Does ht idle still sit high? If you didn't touch anything on the carb, then none of it's settings should have changed, though they might have a little bit from being bumped around.
That rochester is the Quadrajet right? Pretty sure that's all they made...
Anyway, check out this link on the site here to help with the bogging and some other tuning for the QJet, it really does help.

Yes the rochester is a quadrajet. Thanks for the help. turns out today i tried to drive it like normal up I-95 and the car now does the same bogging problem at a little over 1/4 throttle.

Is it the stock computer controlled carb, along with the stock computer controlled distributor, with all the necessary sensors hooked up so no check engine lights? Timing set properly with the car warmed up and the 4 pin plug to the dist removed? Has the carb been rebuilt recently? (theres a great thread on here with tons of huge pictures to walk you through a rebuild) Your stock quadrajet is a great carb and will work fine on motors strong enough to wreck your transmission. It's just harder to rebuild than a holley.
That 9x2 seems small. I had a 14x3 on my own vortec-headed quadrajet-carbed 85TA and it fit fine. It was a Trans Dapt 2195. Needed a short ring spacer about 1/4 or 1/2 inch for the mcs plug to not hit the bottom lid. I had the edelbrock performer vortec intake though, i dont know how it's height compares to the one you have, theres specs on their site though. But then again, I go to car shows and see big blocks breathing through tiny air cleaners like that somehow.
