Coolant Leak Diagnosis

Hey guys,

How would somebody check the possible places coolant would leak out of? Could you pour water through the coolant section, run the car, and see where the leak occurs? any information would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1st check the oil and see if its milky looking or good. If its good

Look for visual leaks everywhere. Even the tail pipes.
Fill it up with water and either let it run and look for leaks.
Or goto a parts store and borrow the free rental tools for pressure testing a coolant system. (you will leave a deposit and get it back when you return the tools)

It takes place of the radiator cap. You will pump the handle upto the psi marks on the guage and then watch for the leak. (Prob. a cracked radiator tank or weep hole on the waterpump)

Thank you!
That is super helpful. I'm really thankful everyone on here is so helpful and clearly explains things. It's easier than asking my brother who never wants to help pick up a wrench.

No problem. Have any problems or other questions just post em up. Let us know what ya find out after a leak test.

More info the better.
Why do you think it has a leak? low on coolant? smoking? etc...
Also fill out your profile so it shows what you have under your username. Will elp people in the future answering any questions when they see what you have.

Good luck with your testing

Hahaha yes it does have the old chevy smoking going on, but if I remember correctly that is the valve stem seals. but I replaced the water pump, and still leaking. It is leaking on the lower radiator hose. I believe it is the lower radiator hose that needs to be replaced because the coolant seems to be dripping off of there. Coolant doesn't seem to be in the oil, but that does smell a bit like gasoline.
