Fall off of power in LT1 -1992 z-28
Fall off of power in LT1 -1992 z-28
My engine has slowly been losing power...I began with a tachometer reading of 2750rpm in fifth gear at 100mph; slowly (over six months)the engine has lost power and now in fifth gear 2750rpm only gets me to 80mph...
New clutch, drive train and rear axle all the same, advice? Camaro Z-28 1992 with LT1 engine
Advice?
Thanks!!!

5th gear? LT1? Are you sure you have an LT1? Are you using a 5 speed or a 6 speed?
Why are you going 100 mph?
The tachometers in these cars are notoriously innaccurate.
Fact is, when the clutch is engaged and the engine and transmission are locked into each other, everything is constant. Even if you're down on power, a certain RPM in a certain gear will ALWAYS mean you're going that speed. It may mean you have to push down the throttle more to get to it, but at that RPM, that speed is always the same. The engine and the road are mechanically linked. There's no way for the engine to be at higher RPM's and the car be at a lower speed. The only reaosn that can happen is the clutch is slipping or your tach is wrong.
I have done all the maths and I use my RPMs as a way to be able to tell how fast Im going in my car. At 2000 RPMs in 4th gear, I am going 45 mph. There's NOTHING that can change that, even if the engine were WAY down on power, except for a slipping clutch.

go to a local shop with a dyno and pay for a few pulls

Clutch slippage is the only possibility for what you've described.
