1986 Pontiac Firebird - Odd Issue Please Help!!!
Ok so to start off I've had this issue once before but wasn't sure what it was, cause the problem went away. So the issue i'm having is whenever im driving or even when i start the car sometimes ( has been happening a few times recently) the car seems to lose its rpms and all power, now im not talking about the battery power everything is still on and running and all works but what im talking about is it seems that the engine is losing all power, i push on the petal and there is no rpms and its gradually slowing down as if its off, but if i let off the petal than it goes to around idling..... I know i have what seems to be a mid-size exhaust leak, i changed the oil and such, i got a tune up on it about a year and a half ago,, i changed from the catalytic converter back on my exhaust as well, changed my fuel filter along with all the other stuff. i haven't done anything to the car in the last 4-6 months other than a fuel filter change and the usual oil changes to the car. I've asked my friends and people i know and I've heard anything from somethings getting wet in the engine, to having to change spark plugs and wires, to maybe i have a short or i have a wire lose to even someone saying maybe my fuel pump is bad( but I've always noticed that if its the pump it ether works or it doesn't). But i was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers or tell me in which direction i should take. cause when this problems doesn
t happen it drives normally, no weird sounds or anything so it's kind of confusing me a little...
But is anyone can help it would be much appreciated
.
the car is a 1986 pontiac Firebird 2.8 V6 model

I forgot to mention that a code pops up on my dash but my reader says there is no codes present in the system, so could the computer in the car be going bad???

Fuel problems usually get worse and worse the faster you go (such as the car runs great in 1st gear up to 30 but in 3rd from 40-up it wimps out at a speed range where wind resistance isn't a big issue yet.)
Hanging a fuel pressure gauge on it wouldn't be a bad idea.
Can you short the A & B pins in the ALDL connector in the dash and get the service engine light to flash (1 flash, 2 flashes = 12 = the ECM is working.) If no, then the wiring is a problem or the ECM is faulty. Do that to rule out the code reader.
