A/C Cycling On/Off every second
A/C Cycling On/Off every second
No matter what position I put the HVAC control to have the A/C on the condenser itself is cycling on/off constantly, about once every second. I know this isn't normal. This is a 92Z w/ 17k original miles I picked up last month. My previous 91Z would just stay on, like all cars. Previous owner knew nothing about the car...
Any ideas where to start? Just needs a new compressor or is this simply an electrical issue and/or sensor???

ac clutch cycling is an indicator of low freon

get the a/c recharged. but make sure to check for leaks first with leak detector.

Now that's the answer I was looking for! This is what I was hoping, but didn't want to do this until I had some expert advice. Will check for leaks first, then charge if all is OK.

How often should the compressor cycle? I just got mine going and it seems like my clutch stays engaged for a long time. It kicks off when I turn the ac off, and the clutch disengages while I give it gas then kicks back on. Is this normal?

Minimum on time should be around 7 seconds. Any less than that and it's usually an indication of low freon.
Staying on for a long time is normal as long as the system is working properly. All depends on the pressures and if the evaporator freezes up or not.
