GOing to be doing some engine bay cleanup over the winter. I was told the Cold start injector was bad when I bought the car, It runs real rough for the first 5-10 minutes after startup, then runs fine after that.

I'm also planning on pulling the Air Conditioning (Doesnt work. Its a convertible.. so why bother fixing it) and the (shhh) air pump for the emmisions system.

I'll be doing a full exhaust system. Shorty headers on back, but other than that, then engine will remain stock for the most part. (Will do new plugs, wires, cap, maybe a coil)

My question is this.

What do I do about the ECM? Do I need to get a custom eProm made? Do I Need tofind a ECM out of a non 9th injector car?

I dont want to get too crazy, as I suspect the engine will be replaced next winter with something more substantial. the 305 runs great right now.. But I suspect I'll be wanting more power thans wats reasonable to expect from a 305.

 

You can get a custom prom for your car relatively cheap. I'm pretty sure they can program out the cold start injector and change the settings on the regular injectors to compensate. Since you are getting rid of stuff, you can also remove the cat and have that programmed out also. NOT THAT I'M ADVOCATING ANYTHING ILLEGAL! Just sayin. I can't remember the name of the company, but you can fill out your specs online and they will burn a chip and send it to you. From what I hear most people are pretty satisfied.

Looks like Hawks will burn me a PROM. I'll probably go that route once I have the mods all lined up.

I've been reading the Illinois Emissions testing and cant tell if I even need to get this car tested anymore. Most of the references are 1996 and newer cars.

Regardless, I know I can pass the test without the AIR system... Not sure about without the cat. So I'll probably just keep it or upgrade to a high flow cat.
