85mph Speedo Problems?

If i were to really bury the needle on an 85 mph unit and i mean if i were to be going anywhere from one hundred to one hundred fifty miles per hour, would that cause any damage to my speedometer, burying the needle like that?

Re: 85mph Speedo Problems?

no damage will occur-there is no direct mechanical
linkage from the drive cable to the indicating needle-
there is a aluminum drum connected to the needle
shaft and a rotating magnet inside the drum driven by
the cable-as the magnet rotates,it creates "eddy
currents"in the aluminum drum causing magnetic drag
that rotates the drum against the resistance of the
needle's "clockspring"
