engine wont start! please help! fuel issues!
first of to the admin. i dont know if im allowed to post this because this is on my 99 tahoe. however it is general engine tech. so if im not allowed please direct me to the correct page or just close the thread
ok i have a 99 tahoe with a 350 vortec motor. 6 months ago i went to wal mart just fine went back outside and it wouldnt start. cranks just fine tries to start for a split second. i can pour gas into the throttle body and it will run pull the gas off and it dies.
i thought to myself, fuel pump. so i replaced it and its still doing the problem. so i replace it again. same thing. i finally got a pressure tester and it has 60psi so a buddy at work said, along with a mechanic, that it might be the maf so he let me borrow his. now it seems to be a little better. i pour gas into the throttle body put the intake back on and it will run for a few seconds and die.
im wondering if its bad gas now?
another friend just suggested that it might be the ignition control module.
im tired of not having my truck. its my 4x4 that gets me though the bad snow and ice. i need it for the bad weather.
i am to the point that i want a mechanic to come, pick it up and fix it ut everyone around here i dont trust and rip you off.
somebody please help!

Re: engine wont start! please help! fuel issues!
When you test the fuel pressure, does it hold pressure after your done cranking? These vortec motors have a poppet style injector/regulator system that is troublesome. The regulator can go bad allowing fuel to leak down, & they need the right fuel pressure to run, too low by even 2 psi they wont run.
You need to find the wires that power the injectors (gives the pulse) & grounds, test them first.
They make an aftermarket assembly that does away w/ the poppets, it has 8 single injectors, its much more reliable. Everybody calls them injector spiders, b/c thats what they look like. Have you changed the fuel filter? It might be resticting flow & pressure.

while im cranking it drops to about 40 then when i stop it goes right back. i dont wanna invest money on an aftermarket system because i might sell this truck in the future and it has 175k miles. so just test it while its cranking?

The upgrade part goes in the same place, cost about the same as an oem replacement, & is much more reliable. The one on the left is oem, the right one is trhe upgrade.

I don't know if the fuel pressure regulator is available seperate, you might what to check if it is. You can see it in the first picture at the bottom of the main body.
