what is a good replacement distributor..?

My 89 needs a new distributor..Is the $125. replacement ok? Or should I spend 350 on a ACELL..Pretty much stock motor..I like to buy good stuff but dont know if I need to drop 350. Especially if Im not racing it. I just want good solid street performance. What do you guys think?

Re: what is a good replacement distributor..?

IMO the MSD distributors are the best I've seen/used. Obviously you can get away with much less quality, but personally I don't think this is a good area to skimp on the quality if you want performance.

For non-performance apps I have no problem taking a stock distributor that's in decent shape and rebuilding it to take the slop out of the shaft & gear. They are not hard to work with so you might consider a DIY project if you need to save the money.

Re: what is a good replacement distributor..?

I've got a couple of used stock OEM distributors with no play or damage in good working shape for substantial savings if you want to consider that route. PM or email me your email address for pics and other info, Henry
This is assuming your car is a V8

Re: what is a good replacement distributor..?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I may go used/stock..Or a new MSD..
Is it a given that a MSD distributor will work in my '89 5.7 if it just says its for a 'chevy V8'? Seems kind of vague..

No. For EFI you have to have the specific distributor that works with what you have.
