Why does my car have an o2 sensor? It's an LG4 car, and it's carburated? Although the carburator does have a bunch of electrical crap on it.

Just trying to figure this thing out. I plan on putting a regular carb on it with none of the EGR crap. Do I need an o2 sensor? I'm gonna do headers, just wondering if i'm gonna need to weld in some o2 bungs.

Please give me some insight.

And ya, I've been searching. If anybody knows of a thread with detailed info about an '83 that would be awesome. Thanks Guys/Gals.

The 83 LG4 uses a computer controlled carb and distributor. You can get a vacuum advance distributor and non CC carb that doesn't use the oxygen sensor or computer.....Then you will need to manually or vacume control the automatic transmission overdrive lock up..... There are hundreds of threads on this, in the carb section....

Ok....with the t5 you onlly need a carb and a dist. Mine were cheap at the junk yard...You can also remove the wire harness that connects the computer controlled stuff.

Thanks, and sorry I searched. There is just so much info on this whole forum that it's getting hard to find anything.

So, where is the computer at? And how the heck does the computer control a carburator?

Re: '83 Camaro z/28

computer is under the dash....wire harness comes out under passenger fender and into engine bay. The CCcarb has throttle position sensor and another I guess fuel or idle electric control....The CCdistributor uses the computer to advance the spark (no vacuum can) and the O2 sensor sends info computer that ultimately adjusts one of the (guess its an electric fuel control) carbs rich to lean modes.... When everything works it is a good system, I drove mine for 200k rarely changing anything other than plugs, and gave good gas mileage. The old school system with non cc carb that i have now eats gas

I also suppose a car from Canada would not be computer controlled.

OH ok thanks. Mine runs awesome for what it is. It sometimes loads up a bit at idle. Mine only has 89k on it. But it's just a fun car so i'm not worried about fuel mileage, which currently is horrible anyways, Especially for being such a gutless 305.
