305 head casting

Can anyone tell me the casting number off of a stock 1983 Z28 head? The car is in storage for the winter and I can't get to it all that easy. Stock LU5 Crossfire injection heads. Or better yet if anyone could tell me the valve sizes and other specs? Much appreciated

Re: 305 head casting

should be 14022601 casting with tiny 1.84"/1.5" valves, 58cc chambers

Re: 305 head casting

With larger intake valves installed, say 1.94, would these heads be a good candidate for a higher compression budget build 350? I know they're going to run out of steam, but for my application, mainly street performance, I have no need to make power over 5,000 RPMs.

Re: 305 head casting

58cc heads are too small to work well on a 350. youd have to run some deep dished pistons to keep the CR down. plus the valves are tiny, for $50 at a junk yard, you can get some stock heads with larger CC and bigger valves.

Re: 305 head casting

If you've got no need to go above 5000 RPMs and just want "street performance" then why are you building a high compression 350? 350 64cc heads and flat tops with the proper quench distance will have you right around 10:1, and with iron heads even 10:1 is as high as you'd want to go. Past that you need to run E85 or something or you'll have to pull out a ton of timing to keep it out of detonation.
