ecm retarding base time to 45 atdc
ok i have just bought a used 92 firebird 3.1 auto
after work i went to take care of the driveability of the car low power, found that the spark plug boots were all loose and too long for the clips to secure to the terminals, then found 4 disconnected vaccume hoses the previous owners/ backyard mecknics replaced the engine with a lower mileage unit and left the charcoal canistor out of the equasion
then i found the timing was too far advance 56deg so i removed the tan/white wire and turned the distributor untill about 6 btdc to tighten down and end up with about 11-12 degrese then i attached the wire and reved the engine to verrify operation of the the electronic advance, all good, shut engine off couldn't start at first got it running observed the timing now at 48deg atdc disconect tan/white wire and started again no issue, removed -batt terminal for 2minutes then same issue 48deg atdc with wire connected then starts fine at 12deg btdc when disconnected
yeah also speedo dosnt work correctly shows 10mph at 70 and about 0-5 most of the time and the oil pressure gauge is off the charts that will be for an other thread just that i saw a simliar ecm and vss question earlier
