intake manifold gasket

First off the question is about an oldsmobile 350 that I have. Just to let you know I do own a 89 formula but this is the best site I know that gives the best advice. I just replaced the gasket on the intake manifold on a 1979 Riviera with a oldsmobile 350. It has a metal valley gasket and rubber seals along the front and back of the block. Now I have never had seals put on and not put rtv gasket maker on them. But these seal specifically said do apply any type of adhesive on them. On the instructions it said very important and in bold letters not to apply this stuff. So I didn't. The question is has anyone came across gaskets like this before? Should I have done it anyway. Please any help is very appreciated. If I wasn't specific enough I was talking about the seals along the front and back of block. I've heard people on this site call them china walls. Thanks again.

Re: intake manifold gasket

on any gm engine gasket kit that supplies the front and rear rubber intake gaskets, I personaly put a generous dot of black rtv in all 4 corners of where the heads meet the deck of the block.

Oh yeah I put plenty of the black rtv on the corners but I usually put it all along the seal.also but in this case I only put it on the corners. Shouldn't have a problem with oil leaks right.

Re: intake manifold gasket

I've seen rvt on those metal gaskets come loose, the one I remember plugged up the heater control valve. I pulled the control valve, thinking that it was bad & found a rectangle piece of rtv in it.
There is a gasket maker that sells fiber type gaskets for olds, I'd use that the next time I do one.
