1982 Camaro z28 surges bogs and sputters on acceleration

Well i have a 1982 Z28 Camaro 305 sb 4bbl HO...About two weeks ago i started experiencing really bad surges, jerks in the car, engine bogging, and sputtering. I had no clue as to what could cause this problem...It would only happen on acceleration...the cars idle is very high.when driving i would hit the gas and the car would feel horrible from constant jerking and sputtering....WHAT COULD THIS BE??? Ive done some research and narrowed it down to the air and fuel system; Bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay, I have been running out of gas alot lately becuase the gas gauge and rpm gauge works when they want to. I also noticed in the fuse box the fuse for the fuel pump is missing as well as some other fuses... Wierd thing is, theres no way to connect a fuse in some spots becuase of missing fuse connectors
PLEASE I NEED HELP. WHAT COULD THIS BE AND WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS??? Heres a video of it running http://youtu.be/CYMK1HkB72M

check your timing, install a muffler and maybe post this in the carb section. btw there is no fuse a relay for a mechanical fuel pump.

would taking of the catalytic converter result in these type of side effects. I took it of because I dought it worked and extremely bad rust. I downloaded the fuse box diagram and replaced the fuses I could and I kind of remember one of the fuses were for fuel something??? This is were the connectors were missing and I couldn't put a fuse in

Looks like the choke isn't pulling off. See how the choke plate is mostly closed above the primary venturis? That's normal when it's cold but it should open fully vertical in only a couple minutes from an overnight-cold start. It also controls the "fast idle" speed (when the choke is closed at all it raises the idle speed)- it's built into the choke linkage.

Those chokes are heated electrically by a one-wire connector on the side of the round black choke element on the passenger side of the carb. If it's not getting a full 12V while the engine is running the choke will never pull off- especially on a cold day. And those connectors often get pretty butchered over the years- lots of times they fall right off they're so banged up (or somebody unplugs them not knowing diddly squat about what they're unplugging)!

And, of by the way, the choke linkage also locks out the secondary throttles from opening if the choke is closed- even partially. The choke must be FULLY open to allow the scondary throttles to open.

I'd suspect one of your missing fuses might be for the choke circuit. However, not all slots in the fuse block will have a fuse in them. There should be a brief description printed on the fuse block body next to what each fuse is for- like IGN or ACC or LIGHTS. Stuff like that. They're not overly-descriptive and often power more than what the one-word description says. If there is no description printed next to a fuse slot that means it's probably a blank. GM used the same fuse blocks in a lot of different cars back then.

Methinks this choke issue is (a big part of) your problem. It's a very common "failure area" with these engines. The choke wiring is also some of the most oddball circuity ever put on a GM vehicle. MANY people are confused by it. If you get stuck check out the wiring diagrams over in the Carb Section stickies board and don't be afraid to ask for help over there. Several of the "usual suspects" who lurk on the carb forum understand that circuitry a lot better than I do.
