Replaced starter now no power at all. Help??
Yesterday I replaced the starter on my dads 1986 trans am and when I went to start car but no power to anything. I un hooked the battery before I took old starter out and have reconnected the wires to the correct places. I have even replaced the positive wire on the battery terminal. I have spent all day double checking my connections. I have checked my ground and have a good ground. Any help would be great! Thanks
Edit: Just replaced Ground cable few mins ago no effect.

make sure the connections on the starter are good, tight and clean, did you clean and lightly sand the block of your engine where the starter bolts on, thats where there starter grounds to, very important for that to be clean, if everything checks out, check you battery wires for resistance, can be a break in the wire somewhere or a fuseable link.

Checked starter with meter and i have power at the starter and my alternator. I haven't found a fuse able link. I also have new battery cables, power on ground that i bought and put on today. I am about to drop the starter and have it checked.

id say you missed rehooking a wire.

The point of my post is that it very often happens that the copper strands inside the wires will break during a starter R&R.
The wires can be hooked up right and look fine on the outside, but be broken on the inside. You have to test each one.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I'm having this exact same problem. Did you ever figure out what was wrong and get it fixed?

So I finally got around to looking into this issue after all the rain and the holiday travels. Turns out I had a bad battery and also forgot to reconnect the battery terminal on the starter . All is good now.
