Zip-Tied TV Cable Help

Well as you can see.....my cable has been ghetto-fied. I bought the car with this like it is and it doesn't affect the way it runs or anything like that (at least I hope id doesn't).

I would like to know how to fix this since its always embarrassing when I show my buddies my engine and the zip-ties are like HELLO!

So does anyone know how this cable is supposd to be attached so the ties can be removed?

Re: Zip-Tied Throttle Cable Help

Thats called a tv cable, it hooked to the transmission, it has an adjustable sleeve, you need to set it right. The best ones are from GM, aftermarkets ones can be hit or miss as far as fitment. Some guys have gotten used ones out of the junkyard, just to have the best ones.

Re: Zip-Tied Throttle Cable Help

Yep tv cable, not throttle cable. The off-white plastic clip floating around on the cable there is supposed to be clipped on the throttle arm, where the zip ties are instead. I assume that the clip is broken.

Looks like it's probably not adjusted right, how well does it shift? Sloppy?

yes sometimes it feels like it takes a little too long for it to shift but it may just be in my head. I have an automatic.

Re: Zip-Tied TV Cable Help

Wiat- is the stud that the cable head normally clips to missing? I see the cable head and the "slug" on the end of the cable that prevents the cable head from sliding off the end..... but I don't see the throttle arm stud that the cable head normally snaps onto.

Am I seeing that right?

If so, you can buy a TV cable stud for a carb (Holley, Edelbroc, etc.) and bolt it on.

Re: Zip-Tied TV Cable Help

Damon - on closer look at the pic you're right - the cable is just looped through the hole where the stud should be, and zipped into place.

Matro - get a stud as Damon suggested, clip the cable on properly and re-set it.

He needs a cable, not a stud. Look at the plastic connector, you'll see the outline of the missing piece.

Re: Zip-Tied TV Cable Help

ex-x-fire: I'm not seeing what you're referring to. I see the normal cable clip-connector slid down the cable so it's out of the way and the rest of it is looped through the hole in the throttle arm and zip-tied. Not sure what you see missing- I jsut see no stud to clip the cable onto even if the cable was in perfect shape.

Not trying to be argumentative, maybe I'm just missing it. If somebody could post up a closeup pic of a normal TPI throttle arm that would probably clear things right up.

Re: Zip-Tied TV Cable Help

Yeah, that one looks like it's got the stud on the throttle arm but the plastic clip-on piece is no longer on the cable. What I'm seeing in this post is that the plastic clip-on piece on the cable is still present (just slid out of the way to accomodate the rig job) but the stud on the throttle arm is missing.

Are we in "violent agreement?"

You can see the outline of the plastic thats broken away.
I can't tell if the stud is still good or not, too many zip ties.
