Quick motor/trans combo question!
Quick motor/trans combo question!
I'm looking at a 5.7 from a 93-95 truck (non-vortec), obviously will be modified, I want the one piece rear main seal, and it being a roller cam setup, as well as this being an affordable engine. It will be bolted to a t5 (don't tell me it will blow up please... Heard it enough), just making.sure the bold pattern is the same, and all I will need is the correct flywheel/clutch setup to make it drivable. Thanks!!!

May or may not be roller cam "ready". It wasn't roller cam when it was in the truck (unless some mistake was made sometime in its past). Some of the truck blocks weren't finish machined for the roller cam stuff.
Otherwise, it'll bolt to a T5 with a proper 1-piece RMS flywheel.

better make sure its a roller the l05 are not equipped with roller equip. at least mine wasn't and mine was from a 95 suburban. i am building it up to a 355 with vortec heads and a voodoo 262 and mating it to my t5 if it blows then i guess ill be looking at a t56 lol

Thanks for the quick reply guys! I'm trying to put together a decent autocross car, do those generation engines respond well to cam upgrades? It won't be tbi in the car, it will be carbureted, stock heads if they will allow more lift with a cam upgrade with no machining.

You want to get the guide bosses machined down a bit, and you should also consider screw-in studs with guideplates.
The TBI heads will show flow increases up to 0.500" IF you do some minor bowl work and get a performance valve-job.
If you don't want to put this kind of work into TBI heads, then you should really consider swapping to a better head like Vortecs. You can get them pre-machined for more valve lift, or there is an aftermarket retainer/spring combo solution.

just like 305 said the tbi heads arent good for nothing other than a boat anchor. i recommend picking up a set of vortecs. i paid 550 for the set of mine that was freshly rebuilt.

Re: Quick motor/trans combo question!
bellhousing is same bolt pattern 1955 to 1995 anyways
would be on any 96 up gen I style sbc too(350 engines)
the RMS being one or two piece has nothing to do with bellhousing pattern
but in 86 up flywheels an flexplates have new smaller bolt pattern than the 1955 to 85 did
also oil pans changed in 86
wont fit 85 older engines
