cold air intake

looking around to see how to add horsepower and this always comes up.
but i have a question.
first look at the placement of the filter in this video

now would the hoses in this picture not act as a "cold air intake" or is it just mainly for looks

Those will pick up cooler air coming in from the headlight bucket area. No "Ram Air" effect, but way better than an open element filter & that is a factory setup.

so would getting a universal cold air intake and installing it give a "significant" hp gain?

Not really "significant" but does allow the engine to run better & be tuned to run better later. You would have to duct the Universal kit to the outside to really get the best benefit & the less turns the better, so that the air can flow as fast & as smooth as possible.

The factory piece ain't real bad, but it certainly could be better. Pretty hard to find those setups anyways, but you could always fab one yourself.
