Blinkers And High Beam

i have a 305 88gta and my problem is the blinkers and high beams. They both work, only problem is it dosnt show them working inside the car, meaning when i switch to high beams the blue light dosnt come on, or when i use my blinker ( left or right) they dont flash the green arrow. i know its not a huge deal but something i like to work, i check all fuses and what not, any tips would help, Thanks

Re: Blinkers And High Beam

ARRRGH that damn blue light, I've been trying to get that working for 10 years! Have pulled the instrument panel several times (for other work), fixed the bulb, only to have it fail again soon after re-assembly. Most recently being 1 week ago.

Some bulbs in the cluster are prone to going out, and popping back on when I thump the dash. The bulb plugs just twist up against the tracks on the printed circuit on the rear of the cluster, doesn't seem to make for the most reliable connection.

For some reason the hi-beam one always responds to cleaning for a short period, then never works again till I clean it next time.

Re: Blinkers And High Beam

If you have a contact issue with the bulb holders try a SMALL dab of dielectric grease on the contact surface & bulb contacts, can't hurt. I even use it with tail & running lights.

Just noticed your from Sydney, right on the coast as I remember, gotta love that salt air!

Re: Blinkers And High Beam

Not a bad idea. This last time I cleaned the contacts with methylated spirits, and sanded a little with 800 grit. Nice and sparkly clean, but still failed after a week - just that one bulb as usual. I'll git 'er next time!!

Sydney's on the coast alright, but it's a big place. I'm in the western suburbs, about 50km from the coast, no salt air here so no issue. It's a 1-2 hr drive to the beach, depending on traffic.
