Intake manifold gasket questions

I'm replacing the intake manifold gaskets on my 5.7 TPI. I've got a couple of questions. I bought the Fel-Pro kit that has both the upper and lower intake gaskets.

Question 1. - When I did a test fit, I noticed the gap between the manifold and the block at the back is pretty big. The kit doesn't have a gasket for this. I have Permatex The Right Stuff gasket maker for this but it's going to be a pretty thick bead to fill the gap. Is this normal?

Question 2 - The kit came with 8 O rings. Where do they go? I didn't see any O rings when I took everything apart.

Re: Intake manifold gasket questions

#1 yes use rtv on the china wall, a little on the tips ot the gasket that touch the china wall both sides and I usually run a thin thin smear around the coolant ports on the intake gasket.

#2 injector o-rings just for the tips if you remove the fuel rail

Re: Intake manifold gasket questions

agree on the china walls; thick bead of the black rtv, let it set for a bit before putting the intake back on. its very easy to push it out of the way and have a big oil leak back there, so give it time to tack up a bit before reinstalling
