Help Identifying Fitment for 25003088

Hello all. I purchased a sending unit for my 1982 Recaro TA with an LU5 many years ago when they were still available. I purchased the car new and it only has 54K on it. I had a lot of condensation in the tank, and it sprung a leak. The car has been in storage for about 20 years, and I've finally decided to pull it apart and replace the tank, sending unit and fuel pump. After I got the tank out and pulled the sending unit, I found that the new sending unit (part number 25003088) is NOT correct. However, it has been so long now that the parts books don't even show a listing for the correct part, or even the incorrect part that was delivered. I have a feeling this sending unit is for a TPI (not TBI) as it has no noise suppression capaciter on it, like my original.

If someone can tell me what application this sending unit fits, I'm going to pass it along on E-Bay. In the meantime, I have a bunch of people looking for the correct unit - 25003095. It will be a miracle if I find one.

It would be nice if I could find a "swinging arm" unit to fit my tank. But I think these were only available on the 1LE's, and the 1LE's didn't offer the LU5 (TBI), which means they didn't make a sending unit with a noise suppression capacitor. I know I am making the assumption that only the TBI equipped cars had this capacitor - but in my reasearch, that's how it appears to be. If anyone has anymore info on a "long reach" sending unit that would work, or a "swinging arm" unit that I could use, it would be appreciated. In the end, I will probably end up repairing my old sending unit and installing a new pump.

I also want to pass on some information I found out the hard way. I am a "purest" at heart, and always try to do things the way they were originally designed such that when I am done, no one could tell I worked on it. For this reason, I was not happy about the Delco EP386 that was sent to me as a fuel pump replacement. It turns out the EP386 has a plug-in connector on the pump (my old pump used terminals, nuts and ringlets on the 2 wires). Instructions say to clip the wires and splice the supplied connector onto the fuel sending unit wires using the supplied crimp on butt connectors (very dirty IMHO). After some research and a couple of phone calls, I found that Airtex's OEM replacement is IDENTICAL to the original fuel pump - part number E3901. No cutting, no spicing - and looks exactly the same as the original. $17.00 at RockAuto.

As for my fuel tank, I found an original on E-Bay. BUT - the newer replacement tanks had the baffles. And since these are NLA, I'm going to go with a used tank from a 91 or 92 Camaro, which all had the baffled tanks. There are plenty of them to choose from in our local PNP, and since I am in Texas, I'm hoping that the odds are good that I will find a tank with no rust in my 600+ acre PNP. However, if anyone knows of a new one someplace (PN 10269091) in VG condition, I would be very interested in purchasing it.

Enough of my rant. Thanks for reading my diatribe.
