Problem with Vortec intake gaskets
Problem with Vortec intake gaskets
Hey guys, having a bit of trouble with my intake gaskets that I am using on my Vortec headed L05. I ordered a set of Felpro MS901312 from Summit and as you can see from the pictures below, they don't quite line up between the intake runners. Should I take a heat gun and carfully try to move the middle piece between the runners? Should I just run it "as is"? Should I try to get another set (already had to wait 3 weeks from Summit to get these in)? I also have a set of Felpro 1255's, but I heard they weren't as good...
Also, in the last picture you can see one of my water ports, there is a gouge in it left from the previous intake gaskets that I can feel with my finger nail. Should I use a bit of RTV around here with either the MS901312's or 1255's or just run em dry. FWIW, no insructions came with the MS901312.
Thanks.

Re: Problem with Vortec intake gaskets
I put the GM performance vortec gaskets on mine and they fit just about the same. and I just installed them. I also used a thin skim coat of RTV around the water ports. If I remember correctly my blazers 4.3 which has similar style gaskets and vortec heads had the same issue. and I noticed no difference before and after fixing the intake gaskets.
