Oil pressure... is this normal
Oil pressure... is this normal
The L98 Iroc I just bought on start up will go to 50 psi. If you run it a little cold it will peg the gauge. The problem is hot idle. If you give it fuel hot its at 35ish. Idling hot in gear its just out of the red and I mean literally laying on the top of the red. It came from a car lot so im assuming its got 5w30 in it since its what it recommends. I put on a new pressure switch and its the same. I also had a few injectors and a fuel pump go down while this oil has been in there. Is it possible the injector issue might have let a little fuel in the oil? it doesn't smell like gas but it feels very thin. I've put some seafoam in it and I"m about to change it. Do you think something like 10w40 will solve my problem? Its got 107k on it and it doesn't smoke or anything except for when I had the injector problem it would blow black. Thanks

DO NOT PUT SEAFOAM IN THE OIL. it will break the oil down and make it really thin. Change the oil, get that crap out of there. put some good oil in and run it. Change it in another thousand miles.

When you change it, I'd put some 10w40 in it. See what that result is. You can also install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. The factory gauge may not be accurate at all.
Re: Oil pressure... is this normal
How can I run a aftermarket gauge on the a piller and leave the stock gauge functioning as well? I know I can test it with a mech gauge but I'd like to add another anyway.

if im not mistaking there is more than one place to hook up an oil guage on the block. runing two gages wouldnt be a bad idea but diffently get the sae foam out and try 10w40.on my car the oil start at 60-70 psi than when warm gets down to 50psi but i have seen it all the way down to 40psi after racing and the oil is hot.i have the three guage kit from summit with oil pre water temp and volts i put it right under the dash above where my right leg would be. when first installed there was a noticable differnce in readings from the stock to this guage set, wouldnt hurt to change the guage

Sounds pretty normal to me, actually.
I'd leave it alone, change the oil using the right stuff with no further modifications, and drive it.
I also wouldn't bother with a bunch of "gauges". Useless clutter for the most part, that do little of value and only cause problems like leaks and banging your knees and hilljack carving up on your car and such.

Well I changed it out for some Mobil 5000 10w40. It brought me from about 10 psi to about 15 hot idle. Driving around the car stays around 30 to 35. Cold start is about 50 and it runs in the 45 to 50 range and slowly goes down. Oil pressure shoots up as soon as you touch the gas.
