Can't find MAP sensor on 1987 Firebird
My car is giving a check engine light, tested as error code 34 which is for the MAP sensor. Symptoms include rough idling (lots of chugging) that will eventually lead to my engine shutting off if I idle enough, and hiccups sometimes when I accelerate.
Got this car 8 months ago and have had these problems ever since. It needed other exhaust work so I put in a new y-pipe, catalytic converter, tailpipe, as well as replaced the EGR valve which did show some improvements with those same symptoms. I bought a new MAP sensor after getting the check engine light code 34, but the mechanic I took it to told me I bought the wrong one (another guy at the shop said that he "couldn't find" the MAP sensor).
It's incredibly frustrating trying to figure this out. I'm restoring this car from really bad shape, and everything is running nice but this is driving me crazy. I've put $3000+ into this car and it's maddening to have such a simple problem like this go unsolved.
This is the sensor I bought:

If I lift the hood of the car and look at the engine, where should the MAP sensor be? From what I can tell it should be in the back-right section of the engine bay mounted on the firewall, roughly opposite the steering wheel on the inside. I've also read things that say a 1987 Firebird shouldn't even have a MAP sensor, which makes this only more confusing as I'm clearly getting a code 34 for my check engine light. The engine is a V6 with new spark plugs/wires.
