84 Berlinetta - Still wondering why it hates me
Ok, the old Berlinetta that I picked up last year is still tormenting me. Here is the deal. The car is a 1984 Berlinetta, 2.8 V6 Carbureted. 58,000 miles and ran good when I got it. Shortly there after I was coming down the road (I had not done anything mechanically to it) and it just stalled. I put the car in neutral and it fired right back up again. I drove it home and checked the fuel filter that was in the back of it and it was in about 1200 pieces. Replaced fuel filter, drove it and at the same point everytime when it shifts from 2nd - 3rd it starts stumpling and then chugs and dies. I rebuilt carb, same thing. Changed distributor cap and rotor, same thing, car dies. Replaced fuel pump, no luck. Added an inline fuel filter try to catch some of the debris that may be in the tank, nothing, no luck car still dies at the same point. New plugs, wires, drained fuel, added new fuel, and nothing, no luck. I believe it is a fuel issue, although the new plugs are getting fuel. There is a small amount of fuel smell on them, they don't look bad, dark tan/mild brown. The digital dash also took a crap on me. I have replaced it with one of those carbon fiber deals and added Autometer gauges. I have checked the codes and there was a 23, I swapped out the o2 sensor and have no codes, but have also disconnected the battery to clear the codes and I don't have a check engine light on. If anyone has any idea's I would appreciate it. I would like to drive the beast, I think the fuel consumption of this car would be so much better than the Silverado. I don't think I forgot anything.
Thanks
Rob
