Re: underdrive pullys worth it?
there would be a power increase, but i don't think it
would be noticable-i tried an underdrive crank pulley on
my z28 many years ago and did not notice any
difference within the RPM range i was running(mostly
5500 max)i had all stock accesories hooked up except
smog pump and a clutch fan was used('82 v-belt
setup BTW)I did install a slightly larger than original
alternator pulley,deep groove '69-72 z28 style,as i
found my alternator belt liked to flip over in the pulley
grooves and break if i revved much higher than 5500
rpm-last time it happened the broken belt punched a
hole of about 1.5"in my SMC hood...The early z28
pulley fixed the problem.I would not use an underdrive
pulley on a CS 130 alternator-they overheat and fry if
turned too slow while a heavy current load is on the
alternator.
