engine pops, what causes it
got a 350 with a edlebrock 650 carb. It runs great when its cold out side but today it was 92 degrees and its popping at idle and while cruising down the road. If I accelerate using a good amount of pedal it clears up and runs awesome. What could i test or adjust(timing, carb, bad cam,???).

Re: engine pops, what causes it
I think id check the timing just to be positive its correct.
Vacc leaks?
Could it be running lean/rich? Maybe try reseting the mixture screws, all the way in then 2 1/2 turns out as a "stock" adjustment. (remember how many times you turned them in, in case you decide to go back to that.)
How old is the carb and whens it been cleaned last?

Re: engine pops, what causes it
Im going to recheck the timing again. I timed it last winter and if i remember right it was more than 30 degrees advance. previous owner said it had a rv cam whatever that means. I have no idea where the timing needs to be exactly. i just turned the dizzy (while engine is running)to where it would start to run bad. Turn it in the direction to where it runs better and stop when it starts to run bad again. Then put it in the middle of those two points. whats a better way? or degree i should run with?
