Hi everyone,

Does the r12 refrigerant lubricate the compressor? I would think this is on bearings like the alt. or power steering pump. My AC hasn't ever worked and I bought the spectre air box and the AC receiver/dryer must go to make room for the air tube on that side.

Can I drain the refrigerant to remove the Dryer and keep the compressor installed until I can get the bypass pulley? It might not even have any R12 hence it not working. I think I would be fine but don't want to remove it and take a chance of having the compressor seize up on me.

I think there is a separate lube in the compressor. It should not cause any issues if you drain it and leave it bolted up. It's just freewheeling on the clutch unless it's turned on. My compressor has been out for years and I've never removed it and not had any issues.
